The book of Revelation (and particularly the visions of 4:1–22:5) is a work that needs to be experienced, more than it needs to be dissected. The reader needs to allow the visual and auditory images of John’s visions to overwhelm the senses and to take control of the imagination. For that reason, the reader should read the entire section of 4:1–22:5 without stopping for explanations. By so doing, one begins to experience the grandeur and power of John’s Apocalypse.
